HORSTKEMPER successfully integrates a new packaging line at the customer EGGER

14 December 2020

Brilon - EGGER GmbH & Co. KG | Rietberg - HORSTKEMPER Maschinenbau GmbH

The Austrian EGGER Group has once again relied on the experience of HORSTKEMPER at its Brilon site behind a surface finishing plant for wood-based panels and has ordered a packaging plant for panel stacks.
The packaging system takes over the panel stacks fully automatically from the existing conveyor system and carries them through under a needle roller station to mark the top panel so that it can be recognized as a protective panel.

In parallel, a chain conveyor feeds piles of cardboard to the cardboard applicator portal. The gantry takes over the uppermost cardboard through a suction frame and folds it over on one side. Then the cardboard applicator gantry places the cardboard in the exact position on the stack of plates below.
In the further course of the system, the corresponding squared timber stacks are fed to the packaging system in a stable shape and position by means of angular transfers. The squared timber stacker gantry then removes the top layer of each squared timber. The number of squared timber pieces to be deposited can be varied by the separately controllable gripper sections. Via the gantry the squared timbers are conveyed to the panel stack on the roller conveyor in the transport section and deposited in the appropriate position.

Finally, the stack of boards including the packaging support, consisting of cardboard and squared timber, is fed to a strapping machine to secure the stack in shape and position for further logistical transport.
The installed packaging line mainly consists of the following machines:

  • Needle roll
  • Chain conveyor
  • Cardboard placer gantry
  • Angular transfer
  • Link conveyor belt
  • Roller conveyors
  • Squared timber stacker gantry
  • Strapping machine
  • Dispenser cyclop
  • Safety fence
  • Controls system

The entire plant was designed, built and commissioned in advance at HORSTKEMPER within the planned delivery time in coordination with the project managers at EGGER. Subsequently, the plant was delivered within the shortest possible time, installed at the customer's site and handed over to production with the successful commissioning.
With the joint implementation of the project, EGGER has once again taken the consistent path of process automation a step further. The renewed trusting cooperation with EGGER in this successful project should be emphasized.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or require further information on comparable and similar plants.
